Biography
Marco Condrò was born in Siracusa, Sicily, in 1974 and moved as a child to Rome with his family, where his passion for art started flourishing since the age of six both in drawing and in painting.
Fascinated from the beginning by the classical figuration of the Renaissance masters, he studied them by reproducing their works; the progression in the study of art led him in his early period to also embrace very different styles: from modern figurative to informal art, his aim was to give voice to colors, which have eventually remained at the core of his painting.
His formal artistic education started at “I Liceo Artistico” Art College in Rome, followed by Accademia di Belle Arti, Rome Academy of Fine Arts, where he graduated with honors in painting in 1998.
His first exhibitions date back to those years. In 1994 he participated in the “5th Painting and Philately Exhibition” in Castello di Porto (Rome). He then took part in some exhibitions organized by his painting teacher, Antonio D’Acchille, an exponent of “The New Italian Manner”, and by the Academy itself: in 1995 “The Divine Comedy” at Fidia Gallery in Rome and at the Faculty of Architecture of G. D’Annunzio University in Pescara; in the same year, the “Exhibition of 22 students of Rome’s Academy of Fine Arts”, Regione Lazio (Rome); in 1998, “A stone for Assisi”, an engraving exhibition at Palazzo Vallemani in Assisi; in 1999, “Rome-Milan Academies” in Colonnella (Teramo) and “The Jubilee as seen by the artists” at St. Joseph The Worker’s Church in Rome; in 2000, an exhibition organized by the Egypt Embassy in Rome.
It is in D’Acchille’s painting studio that his education continued, with the involvement in the creation of a large altarpiece, eventually installed in the Church of the Visitation in Ain Karem (Jerusalem).
Constantly evolving, he has always explored the use of different techniques, from tempera to acrylic, from oil to watercolor, from graphite to charcoal.
His passion for experimentation led him to also engage in the world of new technologies for a few years and create some digital paintings and 3D images, while never abandoning traditional techniques.
Such a diversified background paved the way to a hyperrealistic/photorealistic approach, which he has been following in his recent artistic production.
His works belong to public and private collections in Italy and abroad.
In 2016, one of his works was acquired for the permanent collection of Catania’s MacS Museum (Sicily Museum of Contemporary Art).
In 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2023 he was selected as one of the finalists of the ModPortrait International Portrait Competition and his works have been consequently exhibited in Zaragoza and at the MEAM Museum in Barcelona.
Among his latest exhibitions, “The great masters of international realism in the 20×20 format” at Palazzo Einaudi, Chivasso, Italy (2020-2021) and a collected art exhibition in Chelsea, New York (2023).
In 2022, he was one the winners of the Art International Awards – 2nd Velázquez Painting and Sculpture Competition organized by Sheng Xinyu Art (China).
In 2024 he was among the laureates of the “Titian International Portrait Painting & Sculpture Competition”.
He currently lives and works in Rome.
